Eheim ecco (Eheim convenient canister operation) filters incorporate the features you want most. Easy handling and setup, low maintenance, high efficiency, and multi-stage filtration - all at an affordable price. The multifunction handle, with worldwide patent-pending technology, is unique to the EHEIM ecco filter. In addition to locking and unlocking the filter and serving as a carrying handle, it functions as a priming device. After connecting the intake and output hoses and arranging your media baskets, move the multifunction handle down to the start position. The water flow will begin. When the filter is full, just plug and play. The filter comes complete with media, fittings, and valves. The convenient interlocking media baskets allow for versatility in media setup while preventing water bypass. With proper media setup, you can expect a long service life - an average of 3-6 months between cleanings. The intake and output hose attachments are designed to swivel 360 degrees and ensure kink-free hose connections. A silicone-based integrated o-ring ensures leak-free secure operation. With a new handy impeller cover, annual impeller maintenance could not be easier. As with all EHEIM canister filters, the ecco impeller drive is outfitted with ceramic shaft and carbon bearing to ensure silent operation. Eheim hermetically sealed motor technology guarantees efficient low-energy consumption, safe operation with long-life expectancy. |

I purchased the Eheim ECCO 2234 for my 55 gallon freshwater community live plant tank. The first thing I noticed when I opened the box was the good quality materials it's made with. It is very solid built. As I assembled and installed it I found that it is a very well designed filter. The baskets lock together so they stay in place when you remove or put them back into the canister. The baskets even have a handle at the top. All the media fits well and you can change media as your needs change. It even includes all the media. It self-primes with ease which suprised me at first. I've owned a few filters that say they "self-prime" but this is the first one I've owned that it works. Changing the media is a breeze with just a very small amount of water that comes out when you disconnect the hoses. Even opening the canister is easy. The green tinted clear tubing is also a good design. It allows you to see were the buildup is so you can clean it out. Even the ball joint output nossle is great as it lets you set the waterflow as you need it to avoid "dead water" spots in your tank. And if you have any questions Drs. Foster & Smith is a phone call away. I went to the Eheim website and can order any replacement part direct from Eheim. I am very pleased with this filter and plan to purchase another for my 60 gallon tank. |

I have the 2235 for my 50-gal FW community tank and it is stupendous. It is so quiet that if my water level didn't occasionally dip down to the output level, I would never hear it. I am not at all mechanically inclined, yet I put this together myself, and have easily taken it apart for cleaning. All types of filtration are accomodated and you can add your own specialized type if you wish. Drs. Foster & Smith personnel are extremely helpful but if you need them, the Eheim people are as well. If you choose an Eheim filter, you absolutely will not be disappointed. |

I've been using the over the top filters for 10+ years now, and I finally decided to use a canister filter system. Called around to some friends, and they all said get a Eheim. I purchased this model and was totally impressed by how easy it was to setup and the fact that I didn't have any water problems! I'm so excited with this model, how many baskets you get for the media etc., that I am ordering another one for my other tank! |

Eheim is by far the best filter on the market. I've owned an Eheim or Eheim ECCO for the past 10 years without any failures or repairs. Setup is a breeze - it takes about 10 minutes from the unboxing to full operation. Operation is silent, and I mean silent. Maintenance is a breeze as well. I give my filter a complete cleaning once every 3 months in my planted tank and I check my filter monthly in my overstocked cichlid tank. I would say I spend about three hours per year for BOTH tanks. Hands down the best product you will ever buy for your tank. |
