Lifegard Fluidized Bed Filters create the optimum biological environment for the natural, beneficial nitrifying bacteria that help break down toxic ammonia and nitrites in your aquarium. These bacteria attach themselves to the sand media in the filter chamber. As water is pumped through the filter, the sand grains and their bacteria are constantly bathed in a fresh supply of nutrients and oxygen, creating extremely efficient biological filtration for your aquarium. The continuous movement of the media also helps ensure that detritus does not build up, and this "self-cleaning" action permits a relatively constant level of bacteria to inhabit the sand media. You'll love the convenient, reliable, and easy-to-use engineering of these filters.

Efficient biological filtration. Do not exceed the maximum flow rate. I'm currently using more sand and less flow with amazing results.
(Too much flow; not enough time to process water. ) ( Not enough flow or to little sand; not enough water processed.) These filters do what they claim, as long as you stay under the max. flow rate. A very stable form of biological filtration.
Which aquarium filter is right for you? Today's aquarium fillters include undergravel filters, power filters, canister filters, wet/dry filters, and internal filters. Read more to make the smart aquarium filter choice.
Unlike natural aquatic systems, toxic compounds accumulate quickly in an enclosed aquarium system. Without a natural means to efficiently remove these toxic compounds or wastes, conventional aquariums are dependent upon filtration devices.
There are three basic types of aquarium filter media and each performs a different job to help keep a clean and healthy aquarium environment. This article gives a basic overview of the three main types of filter media.
