These pumps are not self priming.
I love the quiet operation. HOWEVER both when used with the 1" NPT adapter for external operation and on BOTH pumps I had the plastic snapped off just behind the threads under normal operation, dumping my tank twice. Good quiet pump, but beware of using them externally.
I bought a 3000 to use as a return pump. With 3.5 ft of head pressure the pump max's out my twin 1" overflow. And by the way, it can not be heard. This has got to be the quietest pump sold.
