Operating Instructions
Always use a properly grounded outlet. Do not immerse plug in water. Do not reach into water to remove plug. The National Electric Code requires that a ground fault circuit interrupter (GFCI) be installed in the branch circuit supplying fountain or pond equipment. Never Remove ground pin from plug.
Warning: For your protection, always unplug the unit from its power source before installing or servicing. Should the unit appear to be not working, DO NOT reach, remove, or disassemble unit before you disconnect power.
Maintenance & Cleaning
The WFP Series HY-Drive Waterfall Pumps do not require lubrication or special maintenance. The following maintenance and cleaning will improve the pump performance and pump life.
Disconnect the power supply.
Move the pump to a dry and safe place.
Loosen the 5 stainless steel screws from impeller cover.
Remove the impeller cover from the pump body by shaking slightly.
Pull the rotor assembly away from the pump body.
Carefully wash parts with fresh water.
Carefully reassemble the rotor to the pump body after cleaning.
Please take care that the 2 holes on the impeller base and the 2 dowels on the pump body fit together so that the rotor can be assembled correctly.
Revolve the rotor by hand - the rotor should rotate very easily.
Check the O-ring of the pump body.
Reassemble the impeller cover onto the pump body.
Tighten the 5 stainless steel screws.
To avoid incorporating air into the pump, the pump should be submerged deeper than 6 inches below the water surface when it is used underwater.
If the pump is used out of water, the location of the pump should be no less than 6 inches lower than the water surface.
Do NOT allow the pump to freeze during winter.
Never let the pump run dry.
The story behind Hy-Drive hybrid technology
The original pump technology that was used for decades was called direct drive. These pumps used a conventional motor where the motor shaft was directly connected to the impeller, which pumped the water through the pump housing. The chief disadvantage to this technology, as applied to aquariums and water gardening, is that these pumps were oil filled and the motor shaft seal was the only thing that kept the oil from polluting the water. As the pump operated, the shaft seal wore and eventually failed. Since most of these pumps were used in submersed applications, leaking oil from the failing seal caused damage to fish and plants.
Early in the 1990s, Danner Manufacturing pioneered the design and development of low capacity magnetically-driven pumps for use in ponds. Over the course of a few years, the technology got better and the pumping capacity increased, but the inherent nature of the design precluded matching the higher head height of direct-drive units. However, since magnetic pumps are epoxy-filled seal units that drive a ceramic impeller, their biggest advantage, besides being energy-efficient is that they do not create any potential hazard to aquatic life.
Today, there has been a major breakthrough, allowing the new Pondmaster Hy-Drive Waterfall Pumps to incorporate the benefits of both technologies. Hy-Drive pumps are oil-free, extremely energy efficient, operate whisper-quiet, achieve generous head height, and can be used submerged or inline as an internal or external pump source. This combination of features make them ideal for indoor or outdoor use in virtually any aquatic installation.

Was using a 4300 GPH Aqua Scape pump. Changed to the 3200 GPH HY drive . Just a little less water flow, but electric bill down 50%. Very happy.
I purchased the 4000 model to replace a PondMaster 3600, and what a difference it has made. The first thing I noticed was that you cannot hear the pump. Nothing but the soothing sound of the waterfall now! My pond is between 2500 and 3000 gallons, so the water is filtered more often, and better to boot!!! Even when the filter needs cleaning this pump pulls enough water so the skimmer never runs low. I am thoroughly satisfied!!!
