High-efficiency bulbs last a full year and UV units are easy to install
These powerful, yet safe, units work by using ultraviolet light waves to kill floating algae cells as they pass through the UV clarifier. They clear heavy algae blooms quickly and help keep your pond algae free all season long! The TetraPond GreenFree UV Clarifiers are compact, durable, energy-efficient, weatherproof, and extremely easy to install (not submersible). Their high-efficiency Phillips PLS bulbs deliver full power and effectively control free-floating algae for one full year. (Bulbs must be changed annually for maximum efficiency.)

Maintenance and Care Information
When carrying out any maintenance, the unit must be disconnected from the electrical circuit.
Clean the unit at least twice a year. A clean quartz tube will allow the UV light to be more effective in controlling algae. More frequent cleaning may be required for ponds with severe algae growth.
Be sure not to allow water to come in contact with the electrical socket or bulb.
To Disassemble:
Always remove inlet and outlets by unscrewing the hose coupling rings and then drain the unit.
Carefully dismantle the unit. Unscrew the coupling ring and remove the bulb.
The quartz tube may be loosened by using a small coin or screwdriver and then gently removed. Clean with a soft cloth and water to avoid scratching the quartz glass tube. Clean the stainless steel insert also - but do not remove from tube.
To Reassemble:
Be sure that the inside of the quartz tube is completely dry prior to reassembly.
When reassembling, make sure that the sealing rings are properly seated (lubricate with a small amount of petroleum jelly if necessary).
Replacement of UV Clarifier and Quartz Glass Tube:
TetraPond GreenFree UV Clarifier Bulbs should be replaced after 8,000 hours (about once every 11 months of operation).
If using only five to six months a year, replace the bulb every two years.
The bulb may continue to glow after 11 months of use but its effectiveness will be diminished.
Quartz glass tubes do not need to be replaced unless they are damaged.
Please handle with care. Do not leave outside in winter since they are fragile.
How the UV Clarifier Works
The clarifier works by exposing single-celled algae to very high levels of ultraviolet (UV) light as the pond water containing them is pumped through the unit.
The algae die and clump together, making them easier for the filter to remove.
While the UV Clarifier will destroy the algae, water clarity is also dependent on adequate pond filtration to trap and remove dead algae.
Dead algae may clump, sink and accumulate at the bottom of the pond. This can be removed with a fine mesh net or pond vacuum.
For most ponds with normal levels of green water, the cleaning process should take about one week. However, with thicker algal blooms, this may take two to three weeks.
The clarifying process can be made more efficient by carrying out regular partial water changes (up to 25% of pond volume).
Note: Turn UV unit off when treating the pond with any fish medication or remedy.
Positioning and Assembly
The TetraPond GreenFree UV Clarifier is NOT submersible and should be positioned outside the pond where there is little likelihood of it sitting in puddles or falling into the pond.
It is recommended (but not necessary) that the UV clarifier be attached to the tubing that exits the pond filter. The filter will help reduce dirt and dead algae from accumulating on the UV's quartz glass tube.
UV Bulb and Quartz Glass Tube Installation
Insert the UV-C bulb into the connector (Note: Avoid touching the bulb with bare hands and remove any marks using a clean cloth or tissue. Oil from your fingers can reduce the life of your bulb).
The quartz glass tube is positioned with two rubber O-rings in place. Be sure O-rings are positioned properly to form a tight seal. Water entering the quartz tube may cause damage to the electrical components.
Connecting the UV Clarifier to the Pump
Inlet and outlet connections are universal and water can flow through the unit in any direction.
Choose the hose adapter size of the UV according to the tubing used.
Make sure that the hose adapter for the outlet is at least as large as the inlet (If necessary, cut the hose adapter in the groove with a hacksaw to fit the tubing selected).
Make sure the gasket is in place before screwing the hose adapter in the unit.
Hand-tighten the hose coupling rings. Do not use a wrench.
Secure hoses to adapter with hose clamps (not included).
UV Clarifier - Electrical Connection
When working, a purple UV light can be seen through the transparent hose adapters.
The harmful UV light will not pass through the transparent adapters.
An operational test can only be carried out when the equipment is fully assembled.
Seasonal Use Summer: The unit should remain in operation 24 hours a day.
Winter: If there is danger of icing, the unit should be stored in a frost-free location. Otherwise, it can run throughout the winter if green water due to algae is a problem.

Great Product. It took seven days but now my pond is crystal clear (all the way to the bottom). I had my doubts about this product but they were unfounded. I set up the system to use 1" ID line, repositioned the pump to the deepest portion of the pond, and placed the output line into my stream bed and the next day was a noticable improvment. The next day was even better and after a week it was great. It's nice to see my fish again. Thank You!
I have only one thing to say about this product, unbelievable!!!
I had to get two of the GreenFree UV Sterilizers and hook them up in parallel to get the water GPH capacity I needed.
I installed them on 8/18/2004 and by 8/25/2004 the water was clear not cloudy, brown, or yellow but clear. (Tech said, it would take 2-3 weeks to clear, by my description of the green water I had).
All year I have been trying to get rid of the green-black water I had but nothing worked.
Pond water was balanced, no nitrites or nitrates but the fish population is over the limit for the surface area of the pond. I have two large filters but the floating algae are so small they cannot filter them out.
The pond water was so green-green-black that in full sun you could not see your hand one inch below the surface, now at twenty four inches you can see everything.
I forgot how great the large koi look in clear water.
Product is amazing!!! On 6/5/09 I installed a GreenFree UV1 Clarifier on my 500 gallon pond and within 3 days the water was crystal clear... No kidding, crystal clear...Prior to installation, I was a skeptic like many , but WOW, what results...Would recommend this product to anyone who currently owns a pond and is struggling to overcome algae or any new pond owner who wants to combat algae before it begins... Thanks Doctors Foster and Smith- You have made owning a pond an ease...
Thanks to a "friend of a friend" in Oklahoma who had used the GreenFree UV light! We had been fighting horrible pea-green (or worse) algae all summer as we live in the far south and have full daytime sun on our water pond. After installing this unit, we could begin seeing a difference in two days and were completely cleared in a week. Now our friends are mesmerized by our beautiful fish and water! Everyone should have this unit! Makes owning a water pond a breeze!
Our 1000 gallon pond has looked like pea soup every summer for three years. I did a partial water change and installed a GreenFree UV Clarifier on a separate pump and now after about four weeks, the pond is crystal clear. We are amazed and the Koi are able to play tag at full speed. Thanks GreenFree - no more chemicals!
