Aqualight Advanced Series HQI Metal Halide Fixture

Perfect metal halide light fixture for hexagon or custom aquariums. Hang-on-tank fixture uses an adjustable heavy duty bracket that fits over aquarium lip for easy and secure mounting. Adjustable locking arm allows multiple lighting positions. Features sleek, anodized black aluminum housing, ventilation grill, glass lens cover, polished reflector, built-in cooling fan, and easy-connect remote magnetic ballast. Includes 150 watt, 14000°K double ended HQI metal halide lamp. 10-1/2" x 8" x 3" thick. Use over a glass canopy.

• This fixture is for use over covered aquariums only.
• This fixture should not be installed in a canopy.
• For added safety, this device should be plugged into a grounded three-prong receptacle controlled by a GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter) circuit breaker.

Assembly:
NOTE: Do not attach fixture to ballast until all assembly connections, adjustments, and mounting setups are completely performed.

Fixture:

1. Connect Top lighting hood (connection A) to Base hang-on tank mount (connection B).
2. Screw height adjustment knob through connection B and into connection A.
3. Adjust and secure connection.

Mounting Setup:
Place fixture in the desired location on aquarium.
Hold fixture in place and fasten tank mount screws.
Hand tighten tank mount screws. Make sure that the fixture is securely in place.

Adjustment Setup:
Safety: Turn off switch and unplug ballast power cord before handling the unit.

Caution: Do not let the top lighting hood come into direct contact with water.

Extension Adjustment:

1. Loosen extension adjustment knob.
2. Adjust extension arm to desired position.
3. Hand tighten extension adjustment knob firmly. Make sure that the fixture is securely in place.

Height Adjustment:

1. Loosen height adjustment knob until extension arm moves freely.
2. Adjust top - lighting hood to desired position.
3. Hand tighten height adjustment knob firmly. Make sure that the fixture is securely in place.

Angle Adjustment:

1. Loosen angle adjustment knobs.
2. Adjust top - lighting hood to desired position.
3. Hand tighten angle adjustment knobs firmly. Make sure that the fixture is securely in place.

Ballast Instructions:
Make sure to follow the fixture and HQI ballast connection instructions in their entirety. Failure to follow these directions may damage the unit and/or cause unit failure.

Ballast Setup

Fixture and HQI Ballast Connection:

1. Make sure that the HQI ballast switch is in the OFF position.
2. Do not connect the ballast power cord into a power source or outlet until all the connections are completely secure.
3. Align the HQI lamp connector with the HQI ballast connector.
4. Insert the HQI lamp connector (male) pins with the HQI ballast connector (female) pin inlets. Make sure that the HQI lamp connector (male) alignment tab matches the inlet on the HQI ballast connector.
5. Securely plug the Aqualight Advanced HQI lamp cord into the HQI ballast cord.
6. Make sure that the HQI ballast power cord is plugged into an outlet or power source and turn the switch ON.

NOTE: It may take up to 5 minutes for the HQI lamp to reach maximum light intensity.

Caution: When the HQI ballast is turned off, wait until the HQI lamp has completely cooled down before turning the unit back on.

Mounting HQI Ballast: (Optional)

1. Slide out ballast-mounting bracket.
2. Place metal washer between screw and ballast mounting bracket. Tighten screw until secure (mounting hardware not included).

Lamp Replacement

Lamp Installation Instructions:

1. Turn switch off and unplug the ballast power cord from outlet or power source. Caution: Let the fixture cool down before handling.
2. Remove the fixture from the aquarium.
3. Place the fixture on a non-abrasive flat surface with the bottom facing up.
4. Remove the side end panel. NOTE: Side end panel is located at the end of the fixture opposite the cooling fan.
5. Slide ventilation grill off the fixture.
6. Detach HQI glass lens cover from the lamp holder.
7. Remove the lamp. Use a soft cloth to grab one end of the lamp. Push the lamp into the opposite end to free one side of the lamp. Warning: Do not touch Double Ended HQI Metal Halide Lamp with fingers as the oils will damage the lamp.
8. Gently lift the lamp up at an angle and remove the lamp.
9. Carefully install replacement Double Ended HQI Metal Halide lamp using a soft cloth and replace light fixture parts.

I own a 115 gal. Reef Tank and I chose these lights to mount on top. These two give off a combined wattage of 600, which is just under six watts per gallon. Both light fixtures are lightweight and look professional, mounted on top of the tank. Surprisingly the fixtures don't get hot on top as I expected they would. The slats below the lights are made so they cool quickly - thus I don't require an expensive chiller. These lights also have a mini fan allowing the air to pass through the light for additional cooling and they were very simple to mount. Overall I give this light an A+ and don't have any suggestions on how it could have been made better or what I would want to see changed. I'm very pleased with my lighting upgrade, as are my corals. I would highly recommend this lighting for anyone looking to upgrade or simply requires more lighting.
