Q. Can I use the Stunner LED outside the USA?
A. No. At this time ecoxotic products are only designed and approved for US voltages.

Q. Will the Stunner produce enough light to keep Tridacna clams?
A. Not on their own. However, adding Stunner strips to our Panorama LED fixture or existing light fixtures will tremendously accent the colors of clams.

Q. What is the difference between the 403nm and 453nm Stunner?
A. The 403nm emits ultraviolet purple light that is ideal for viewing many coral species at night. The 453nm emits a purple-blue light that is great for enhancing color, moonlighting and for creating dawn to dusk cycles.

Q. Is the Stunner LED UL/CSA approved?
A. The Stunner LED uses a low voltage UL-Listed wall transformer.

Q. If I run a fan next to the Stunner, will it increase the bulb life?
A. The Stunner has been designed to operate without a fan. It does not need additional sources of cooling.

Q. Can I connect the Stunner to a dimmer?
A. You can connect the Stunner up to a timer, but use of a dimmer or controller is not possible at this time.

Q. What is the maximum number of Stunners I can add to my Panorama?
A. Six Stunner units is the maximum you may add to a Panorama Fixture.

Q. What maintenance is required on my Stunner LEDs?
A. Aquarium lighting maintenance should always include a once per week inspection for salt creep or corrosion. Wiping the Stunner down with a cloth regularly will ensure maximum life expectancy and performance.

Q. Can I leave my Stunner on all the time?
A. Yes. You can leave the Stunner on all of the time. They have an incredible 50,000-hour life expectancy.

Q. Will the tape on my Stunner LED stick to wood?
A. The Stunner comes with a very durable 3M tape. It will stick to many surfaces including wood. You may also use the supplied screws to secure it more firmly.

Q. Can the Stunner be used for saltwater fish aquariums?
A. Yes. With the Stunner, you can add a touch of blue or UV. Plus, you'll get that shimmer effect you've been looking for.

Q. How many Stunners can I link together?
A. You may operate up to six Stunner Strips with a single 24V power supply.

Q. Can I mount the Stunner LED inside a light fixture?
A. Yes, you can add the Stunner to the inside of an existing light fixture, but great care should be taken to ensure it is not near metal lamps or any other device that is above 50° C.

Q. Can I use the Stunner LED Strips in a canopy?
A. Yes, the Stunner is designed for canopy installation. In order to maintain maximum light output and life expectancy, additional fan cooling is strongly advised.

Q. Can the Stunner LED Strip be placed directly on an aquarium?
A. No. The Stunner is designed to be mounted to a canopy. It is not intended to be placed directly on the top of an aquarium.

Q. Will the Stunner grow hard coral or SPS coral?
A. Depending on configuration and the number of Stunners used, the Stunner can support a wide variety of animal life. However, we recommend using the Stunner LED for accenting the colors of coral and using it to supplement other lights.

Q. Can the Stunner be used for planted aquariums?
A. Absolutely. The 8,000°K version will be the best for plants.

I have a 40g tall freshwater aquarium that I've been trying for ~9 months now to grow plants in with mixed success. One of the challenges I've been facing is that I chose an Eclipse 3 all in one hood. The 36W of light that it provides from the stock fixture is mostly adequate for lower light plants. However, in 9 months' time I've had *three* different fixtures quit lighting both bulbs on me -- 36W may be mostly adequate, but 18W simply isn't. Marineland's support has been great, but I've reached the conclusion that there's simply something off about their light design: 3 failures in 9 months is just way too much for simple bad luck. I started looking for lighting alternatives that would work with an Eclipse 3 hood (which I'm not interested in giving up the for a number of reasons which aren't relevant), and quickly narrowed the field to a Power Compact retrofit from Current-USA, or an LED solution, of which the Stunner strips looked most likely. I contacted both Ecoxotic and Current-USA to ask about their products. Ecoxotic assured me that six of their Stunner strips would certainly give me more light than the 36W I (theoretically) had, but suggested that I start with 3 or 4 -- which advice I greatly appreciated since they're kinda 'spensive. Current-USA let me know that they'd stopped making their retrofits (though they still had a few sets around) because the quality of the some of the new LED products on the market had gotten so good, and suggested I look at them instead. I followed up with Ecoxotic asking whether they thought that their product would work well with plants, and put more or less the same question to the Current-USA person, specifically about the Stunner strips. Ecoxotic assured me that their strips would work fine for plants and suggested the 8000K model, and to my delight, the Current-USA person replied that he(?) had a planted freshwater tank himself that has been lit with Stunner strips for some time and his plants were growing quite well. That did it. I ordered 4 strips and got them mounted inside the housing of my Eclipse fixture (with the trappings of the florescent lights removed, of course), after only moderate finagling -- the surface of the fixture isn't really "flat" so I had to build up a platform of sorts to mount them well. I was again *very* glad that the Ecoxotic person warned me off buying 6 strips, as 4 is about all that I could fit inside the Eclipse fixture. Turns out, 4 seems to be all I need. The light from them is excellent -- I would estimate that it's at least half-again as bright as the florescent tubes were. It *is* whiter than the tubes I had in there before, which I expected, and it seems to spread through the tank even *better* than the florescent light did, which I did *not* expect. I'm optimistic about the longevity of the Stunners -- at a 50,000 hour rated burn time, my 10 hour a day tank ought to get about 13.5 *years* of use out of them. That breaks the cost of 4 strips and the power supply down to ~$23/year, so they're probably not really much more expensive in the long run than florescent bulbs would be over the same period, and that doesn't even count the difference in electricity usage. It's much too early to tell how my plants will take to it (I've only just installed them), or what sort of effect it will have on algae, but presently I'm optimistic, and I wanted to share my experience so far, in case it helps others in their deciding.

I bought both the Stunner 453nm Blue and 403nm UV strip, and compared them to a Current PowerBright 460nm system. The Stunner Blue is better for a nano because it has no reflector, so it spreads well. The Powerbright 460 is much much brighter, but is awful for a nano because it directs all the light into one area. Was extremely unimpressed by the Stunner 403nm UV, the 453 Blue fluoresces corals much better and is actually visible throughout the tank.
